A let’s-get-back-to-work warm up painting.  I always seem to do one of these after I’m away fromt he computer for a few days.

I want a 4ft version of this to put on my wall.
Just…. amazing. Lots of artists can make pretty pictures. Lots can even do it pretty fast. Not nearly so many can make art that is… this.
For those unfamiliar, this is from http://www.tenthousandmasks.org/para-ten/. Go and read it.

Turin Turambar, mightiest mortal warrior of the First Age and probably my favorite Tolkien character.  Aside from maybe Beren and his lineage, no human ever caused as much trouble for the forces of evil as Turin in those days (though admittedly he caused a lot of trouble for his allies).  I’ve got a soft spot for those tragic cursed warriors just trying to make things right.
Depictions of Turin and the dragon Glaurung are common in Tolkien art, and it’s hard to do something new, especially with his famed helmet, the Dragon-helm of Dor-lomin.  It’s usually depicted in a Hellenistic style with a little dragon on top, but in the text it’s said the helmet was supposed to be terrifying, especially to orcs and the like.  With this in mind I went with something more fearsome, along with some armor to match.
This image is actually for a project I can’t quite talk about yet, but you’ll hear more about it soon!

I’m guessing this secret project has something to do with fleshing out stories in the Silmarillion, as most people have trouble getting into that dense work, though any consider it more interesting than Lord of the Rings, and I have to agree; all the most interesting stuff happened before the third age.
And, with Mr. Diaz’s Star Wars 1999 project and Justice Liege reboot, he has shown he is unafraid to write fan fiction, which is much closer to total rewrites or new interpretations than most fan fiction. It’s as much fan fiction as Peter Jackson’s version of Lord of the Rings, if that makes sense. And this is only my own interpretation, don’t take my word for it; Check out Aaron Diaz’s stuff for yourself and make your own judgement. http://dresdencodak.tumblr.com/
IMO. Arron Diaz needs a time machine, or a cloning machine, because I cannot think of anyone I would trust more with all these great projects, if only it were physically possible for him to work on all of them. And hey, maybe eventually it will be!

I haven’t Been Here Before

“I am lost inside my own head. I haven’t been to this part before. Why isn’t rational thought telling me what to do? I don’t work without it.”

That is the context this depicts. I found my way back, but that place is still in there, whatever it is.

dresdencodak:

Some assorted Jedi and sketches from my Star Wars: 1999 project.  Couple notes about Jedi in my version of the prequels: there is no Jedi Order or really even a recognizable council, nor do they wear robe uniforms and all carry lightsabers as they do in Lucas’s prequels. They’re a bit more diverse, a little more like a cross between wandering samurai and the Knights Templar, with enclaves and bases spread throughout the galaxy.

These Jedi, from left to right:

  1. Ordok is a master swordsman with 5 eyes all the way around his head. He can’t breath regular “human” atmospheres, forcing him to wear a helmet reminiscent of a Japanese monk basket-hat thing.
  2. Califa is a former Devaronian slave who specializes in unorthodox weaponry. Similar to how real-life Samurai used mostly other weapons in battle with swords mostly being ceremonial, Califa and some other Jedi use more modern weapons in battle.
  3. Kiran is a pacifist Jedi with cybernetic eyes. He’s long since refused to carry a weapon, though he will not say what caused this change of heart. His greatest skill is the ability to dismantle a blaster with the Force, making him a valuable asset in a fight.
  4. Zin is a cunning old woman who has been in more battles than she can remember. While a legendary force for justice in the Republic, Master Zin has gotten somewhat senile and deranged as she becomes ever more obsessed with rooting out “secret enemies.”
  5. Duke Drago is a rare aristocrat trained as a Jedi. He has taken it upon himself to repair the historically rocky relationship between the Republic and the Jedi, though the rogue antics of some Jedi (like Obi-Wan Kenobi) have stifled this project.
  6. Obi-Wan Kenobi, the hero of our tale, is a talented Jedi Knight trained by the legendary and elusive Yoda, famous destroyer of the ancient Sith. Kenobi has become disillusioned with the incompetence of the Republic and has decided to wage a one-man war against the aggressors of the Clone Wars, a conflict that most Jedi have not openly participated in.  Kenobi’s attire is a combination of Clint Eastwood-esque cowboy clothing covering ancient Jedi armor, a gift from his estranged master.
  7. Vima is Kenobi’s young apprentice and voice of reason.  While she has recently constructed a lightsaber of her own (a monumental undertaking), her master is hesitant to let her into battle. Instead, Vima spends most of her time investigating the Outer Rim for outside threats.

Reading this is so… It’s amazing to realize how much the prequels have warped star wars. I am very curious to see how this goes! Very excited.

alacritystudios:

Happy Maglorificent Monday!
Today’s update is a color illustration of my character, Ryvalia, from the PC game APB: Reloaded. It’s a multiplayer free-to-play open world shooter, kind of like GTA. The game’s character customization is so powerful, you can create your own clothing with your own custom designs and logos.  You can also customize cars and compose your own music in the game as well.
I drew and painted this in Paint Tool Sai, and it took me pretty much half of the day to do!

I am not only reblogging this because it is an excellent characterization, but show a tremendous growth artistically for  alacritystudios. For a long time now he has been working to see his art in 3 Dimensions, and here he has truly succeeded.

This marks a 2 page update to Tiny Bazzelwaki (the first update to it in a YEAR)!
Not only that, but the 2nd page is 3 pages long. So this is more like 4 pages of normal Tiny content.
If you can really wrap your mind around what Part Two is going to attempt, you’re doing better than me. BUT it’s totally awesome. This is going to be a wild ride, at least when I fancy updating.
